ROPA (Maternidade Partilhada)

The ROPA (Reception of Oocytes from Partner) method allows a female couple to share the process of motherhood.

While one woman is responsible for donating the oocytes, the other receives the embryo(s) resulting from the treatment – Reciprocal Fertilization.

Indicações:

Female couples who desire shared parenthood.

Procedimento

The process begins with a complete gynecological examination of both partners, defining the role each will play.

The partner who will be the egg donor undergoes ovarian stimulation identical to that of conventional in vitro fertilization – using injectable medications to promote follicular development and maturation, allowing for the retrieval of a larger number of oocytes.

In parallel, the embryo recipient is also prepared uterinely to achieve the correct endometrial thickness for implantation.

Ovarian puncture is scheduled when the follicles reach the appropriate size. On that day, after oocyte retrieval, and using donor sperm, in vitro fertilization (IVF) is performed. The development of the embryos is evaluated until the day of transfer, at which point one or two embryos are placed in the recipient's uterus.

The beta-hCG test is performed 12 days after the transfer to confirm pregnancy.

Alternatively, the embryos obtained could be cryopreserved and subsequently transferred in a cryopreserved embryo transfer cycle to the recipient woman's uterus.
